What a Vuse vape is
Vuse is a family of vapes from R.J. Reynolds Vapor Company. A Vuse system works differently from a disposable. You keep a rechargeable device and swap the pod or cartridge when it runs out, so nothing gets thrown away whole.
For the Alto, the FDA describes the pods as sealed, pre-filled and non-refillable. You never fill a pod or change a coil. A new pod snaps onto the power unit and you carry on.

How the Vuse Alto works
The Alto has no buttons. You draw on the mouthpiece and the device fires. Our Alto Power Unit Kit listing describes a 350mAh rechargeable battery, an LED battery indicator and a magnetic USB charger that snaps onto the bottom of the device. The charger is proprietary, so a standard phone cable won't fit.
Alto pods are made for the Alto power unit only. They won't work in a Vibe or a Solo, and those systems use their own tanks and cartridges.

Vuse Alto pods: strengths and flavors
The percentage is the nicotine salt in the e-liquid. A 5% pod holds 50mg of nicotine per mL. A 2.4% pod holds 24mg and a 1.8% pod holds 18mg. Each Alto pod holds 1.8mL.
A higher number means more nicotine in every mL. If you're not sure, the strength printed on the pod you use now is the best place to start. Only the Original Series 2-pack comes in all of them.
The Original Series covers Golden Tobacco, Rich Tobacco, Classic Tobacco and Menthol. The Prismatic Series adds Golden Spark Tobacco, Dusk Glow Tobacco and Aqua Frost Menthol, and our listing says those pods layer more notes into each flavor. Vuse and FDA authorization
The FDA has authorized specific Vuse products and keeps a public list. As of its August 28, 2026 update, the Vuse entries are:
- Vuse Alto: the Power Unit and Golden Tobacco and Rich Tobacco pods, each at 1.8%, 2.4% and 5%. Granted July 18, 2024.
- Vuse Vibe and Ciro: Vibe Tank Original 3.0% and Ciro Cartridge Original 1.5%, with their power units. Granted May 12, 2022.
- Vuse Solo: the Solo Power Unit and the Replacement Cartridge Original 4.8%.
It's worth being clear about what that means. In its Alto announcement, the FDA says authorization doesn't mean the products are safe or that the agency has approved them. The orders also carry marketing restrictions, and the FDA can suspend or withdraw them.
