The JUUL serial number is 8 characters engraved into the back of the device, just below the JUUL logo. It is not printed on the packaging, and JUULpods do not carry one at all. The single most useful thing to know before you read it: the sequence uses the digits 0 and 1, and never the letters O or I.

Turn the device over. The serial is laser-etched into the metal on the back, in small characters directly beneath the logo, running the same direction as the device.

How much nicotine is in a JUUL pod?

Do JUUL pods expire?

Why is my JUUL pod leaking?

Leaking in a closed pod system is almost always pressure or temperature, not a faulty pod.

Heat thins the e-liquid and expands the air inside the pod. A device left on a dashboard, or carried in a trouser pocket all day, will weep into the mouthpiece. Altitude does the same thing, which is why pods leak on flights.

Draw style is the other cause. A hard, sharp pull drags more liquid into the airpath than the wick can hold, and the excess collects. A slower, longer draw moves less liquid and tastes better besides.

If a pod weeps, take it out, wipe the mouthpiece and the base with a dry tissue, and wipe the device's pod slot before you put it back. Liquid sitting on the contacts is what turns a small leak into a pod that stops firing.

How do you clean the pod slot and contacts?

A dry cotton swab, and nothing else. The 2 gold contacts at the bottom of the pod slot need to stay dry and clean to conduct.

Take the pod out, run the swab around the inside of the slot, and dry the base of the pod as well. Never rinse the device or use a liquid cleaner on it. If firing is intermittent, the contacts are the first thing to check and the easiest thing to fix.

When should you swap a pod out?

Before it runs empty, usually. A cartridge tells you it is finished by tasting harsh or faintly burnt. That happens when the wick dries out faster than the liquid can feed it.

Two habits bring it on early. Chaining several draws back to back gives the wick no time to re-soak, and a nearly empty cartridge has less liquid to draw on to begin with. If the taste turns sharp, set it down for a minute instead of pulling harder.

There is no counter on the device, so taste is the practical gauge. Most people land somewhere under the 200-puff estimate for this exact reason, and that gap is normal rather than a sign of a defective cartridge.

Can you refill a JUUL pod?

The JUUL is a closed system. The pod is sealed at the factory and is not built to be opened, topped up or reused. Nothing about refilling one falls inside the authorization the FDA granted for this device.

So this guide does not explain how to do it. Why so many people think JUUL was banned

Because 3 separate events got compressed into 1 memory, and every one of them was real.

The first was JUUL's own decision. In October 2019 the company stopped US sales of mango, creme, fruit and cucumber, and it dropped mint about a month later. Those were the flavors most people bought, so shelves looked emptied out.

The second was the FDA enforcement policy of February 2020, which targeted flavored cartridge-based pods and left tobacco and menthol alone. To a shopper, a rule that removes most flavors is hard to tell apart from a rule that removes the product.

The third was the marketing denial order of June 23, 2022, which is the one that made headlines. It is also the one the agency later undid, and that part got far less coverage.

What the FDA did, in order

The sequence runs across 4 years, and reading it in order settles the question.

The rescission is the step that matters and the step nobody reports. A denial order that gets rescinded does not become an approval. It stops existing, and the application goes back in the queue. That is what happened here, 14 months before authorization arrived.

Does JUUL have FDA approval?

No, and neither does any other vape on the market. The FDA does not approve tobacco products. It authorizes them, which is a different and narrower thing.

Authorization means a manufacturer filed a premarket tobacco product application, the agency reviewed it, and the agency permitted the sale. The FDA states plainly that this is not a finding that the product is safe, and not an endorsement by the agency. Is JUUL still in business?

The company kept filing, though. Clearing the JUUL2 through review on August 28, 2026 is not something a business that had wound down would be doing. The simplest test is the one you can run yourself. The products are on the FDA list, and they are on shelves.

Are JUULs banned in your state?

This is where the answer stops being a flat no, and it is the part most articles skip. Federal authorization decides whether a product may be marketed nationally. It does not override state or city law.

Several states restrict flavored vapes on their own terms, and the wrinkle is that menthol counts as a flavor under some of those laws even though it is federally authorized. So a JUUL buyer in 1 state can have both strengths of both flavors, while a buyer in another has fewer options or none.

JUUL2 pods don't fit. JUUL2 is a different device with a different pod format. If you own a JUUL, you need JUULpods, not JUUL2 pods. Check the box before you restock.

Third-party pods aren't authorized. Pods sold as JUUL compatible, and refillable pods sold for the device, sit outside what the FDA reviewed. The authorization covers the device together with JUULpods. Using anything else also puts you outside the manufacturer's warranty.

Turn the dial and the animated display shows which level is active. The flavor itself does not change at any setting, only how cold the draw feels. One device can be a summer iced drink in the afternoon and a winter menthol at night.

The airflow slider on the base is the part regular vapers notice. If the draw feels weak, check the airflow setting before assuming the device is finished. On MyRusher that is the slider on the base; on MyCool and MySweet the power slider moves airflow with it. If flavor tastes flat, try the opposite end of whichever dial the model has. A great many devices get thrown out at half full because a setting was wrong.
